Within a month, a second child from Guatemala died after being arrested by US border authorities. The eight-year-old boy had died in the night on yesterday in Alamogordo in the US state of New Mexico, communicated the US border authority yesterday. The cause of death is not yet known.
The child was taken to a hospital on Monday after signs of illness were noted. First, it was assumed that a cold and have dismissed the child again. On Monday evening, the boy was again hospitalized because his condition had deteriorated. He died shortly after midnight.
Girl died in early December
It was not until the beginning of December that a seven-year-old girl died of dehydration after being arrested by US border authorities. The child had not drunk water for days while fleeing Guatemala. The US Department of Homeland Security described the girl’s death as „unbelievably tragic,“ but the US government denied any blame for the child’s death.
In recent weeks, a large number of refugees and migrants from Central and South America have made their way to the US to seek refuge there. The US administration of President Donald Trump has increasingly sealed off the border against migrants and drastically tightened the course towards those seeking protection.
