The Federal Association of German Industry (BDI) calls shortly before the Digital Summit of the Federal Government an international offensive of Germany and Europe for the promotion of artificial intelligence (AI). BDI President Dieter Kempf told the „Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung“: „We need more experts in this area, and that’s why we have to search the world, and there are certainly some disappointed researchers on the West Coast of the USA or in China who likes to go to Europe for a good chair of applied research. “
Kempf emphasized that it was high time to implement the AI strategy swiftly: „The three billion euros which the Federal Government has awarded for the coming years are already a word.“ Nevertheless, Europe is still far behind China and the USA. It is therefore important to use the money properly. In the words of the BDI President, Europe should not try to catch up with Americans when analyzing consumer data. „It is better to use the research money for the further development of industrial applications, because that’s where we Europeans, and Germany in particular, have a clear advantage.“
Especially in application-oriented research, according to Kempf, „enormous opportunities“ are opening up. A big topic is Artificial Intelligence, for example in medicine. „In this way, it is possible to diagnose and treat diseases like cancer much better than today.
