After the accident of the freighter MSC Zoe, the search for lost containers continues today. Ten containers have been spotted in German waters so far, but only one of them could be secured, as reported by the casualty squad.
The other nine had been visible from the oil surveillance plane or the police helicopter. However, they had already sunk when a ship reached their position.
270 containers lost
The MSC Zoe had lost about 270 containers in a stormy sea during the night on Wednesday, on the way from Belgian Antwerp to Bremerhaven. „So far, we can confirm that a maximum of three containers of dangerous goods have gone overboard,“ said a spokesman for the accident command yesterday. „These containers have not been found yet.“
So far, no containers have been washed up on the German North Sea coast. The Havariekommando warns against touching containers, container parts or objects found on the beach. The large containers are also a risk for shipping traffic. Meanwhile, the Wasserschutzpolizei Bremerhaven has determined the cause of the accident.
