Saudi Arabia has categorically rejected a symbolic US Senate decision to end American aid to the Riyadh military operation in Yemen

The Senate’s decision was based on „unsubstantiated allegations and allegations,“ the Saudi Foreign Ministry said on Monday night. In addition, the US Senate’s actions include a „blatant interference in the domestic politics of the kingdom,“ the agency quoted SPA from the message.

The US Senate symbolically decided last week to end US aid for Saudi Arabia’s highly controversial military operation in Yemen. The background to the resolution is the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

According to intelligence from US intelligence services, the highest circles of Saudi Arabia around Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman were involved in the killing of Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul, or at least knew that. In a second decision, the Senate passed a resolution blaming the Saudi leadership for Khashoggi’s death.

The Yemeni resolution barely calculates chances to take effect. The House of Representatives would also have to agree to that. There, however, there are reservations about countering the still comparatively tolerant attitude of President Donald Trump towards the Saudi leadership.

In Yemen, Houthi rebels have been fighting against supporters of the internationally recognized government for more than four years. Their troops are supported by a led by Saudi Arabia coalition with air strikes.
