In Syria, according to Russian information, a passenger plane was almost hit by the Syrian air defense. The Airbus 320 had crashed into the Russian-controlled Khmeimim airbase, the Russian news agency RIA reported today, citing a spokesman for the Moscow Ministry of Defense.
Syrian air defense has tried to fend off an Israeli attack on Damascus. Khmeimim is located around 300 kilometers north of the Syrian capital near the Mediterranean city of Latakia. Details of the incident are not yet known. Russia stands behind President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian civil war.
