Russian opposition members have called for mass protests again at the upcoming regional elections in Moscow, because of the exclusion of many Kremlin critics.
Police want to crack down
Thousands of people are expected to arrive in the city center from noon today in front of the Moscow City Hall. The police have already announced that they will crack down on the unauthorized protest.
The protesters have been demanding for days that opposition candidates be admitted to the Moscow City Parliament election in September. Many politicians were not registered because of alleged formal errors.
Since then, the team around the Kremlin critic Alexei Nawalny regularly calls for mass protests in the Russian capital. The 43-year-old was then sentenced to 30 days in prison. Last weekend, around 20,000 people took to the streets.
