The Russian police arrested one of the country’s most prominent investigative journalists in Moscow. The investigators accuse Ivan Golunov of drug possession. During his arrest four grams of the substance misused as stimulant Mephedrone have been found, the police said in the capital yesterday.

In the apartment of the 36-year-old then more packages were discovered with a „powdery substance“ and a balance. Investigations had been initiated for trade and drug production.

Received threats in recent months

The reporter works for the Kremlin-critical news portal Meduza. According to the website Golunov has rejected the allegations against him. The portal assumed his journalistic work as a background. The journalist had been threatened in recent months. In anti-arrest protests, several people have been temporarily arrested, according to Russian media.
