His departure was for weeks as a settled thing, now the US Vice Minister of Justice Rosenstein has officially submitted his resignation to President Trump. Rosenstein had supervised the Mueller investigation.

Deputy Head of US Department of Justice Rod Rosenstein resigns. He submitted his resignation request to President Donald Trump, according to which he wants to resign from the office of Vice-Minister of Justice on 11 May. The dismissal had been expected since William Barr was confirmed as Minister of Justice.

Rosenstein wanted to divorce in mid-March from office, but then remained a little longer until the Russia investigations by Special Investigator Robert Mueller were completed.

Rosenstein’s relationship with Trump has long been considered shattered. In February, he came under pressure for alleged earlier consideration of a dismissal of the president.

Rosenstein oversaw Mueller

Rosenstein has been in office for almost two years, during which time he appointed Mueller and overseen the work of his team, as well as defending the investigation.

Mueller submitted his report on possible complications between Trump’s campaign team and Russia at the Justice Department in late March. On this basis, Rosenstein and Barr came to the conclusion that Trump did not obstruct the judiciary.

Successor already nominated

In his letter, Rosenstein wrote to Trump: „I am grateful for the opportunity to perform the office, for the courtesy and humor you demonstrated in our personal conversations, and for the goals you set in your inaugural address: Patriotism, harmony, security, education and prosperity „.

Trump has already appointed a successor to Rosenstein with conservative lawyer Jeffrey Rosen. The Senate still has to agree with the staff.
