According to information from the Turkish coast guard, a private boat was shot at off the Greek island of Rhodes. The inmates, two Turks and a Syrian, were injured, one of them seriously, according to a statement from today.
The Turkish coast guard had received the information that Greek forces had fired the shots. When Turkish boats reached the place, however, no Greek forces were to be seen. The incident is said to have happened this morning. The shelled boat sank.
Two Greek news portals reported that smugglers brought around 30 people from Turkey to the Greek island of Rhodes during the night. Gunshots could be heard. It is not clear whether the incidents are related. There was nothing from the Greek side from official sources. A police officer, who did not want to be named, told the dpa that the people had been arrested.
