Since the beginning of the US „war on terror“, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq have reportedly killed around half a million people. In the report published yesterday by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs of Brown University, the number of victims is reported at between 480,000 and 507,000. Among the dead are insurgents, civilians, policemen, other security forces as well as soldiers from the US and allied states.

Compared to the last report from August 2016, the number of deaths has increased by more than 110,000, the university said. This shows how „intense“ the „war on terror“ launched after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 is still – even if it is often ignored by the US public, the media and politicians.

The number of victims could also be much higher, admitted study author Neta Crawford. „We may never know the total number of direct fatalities in these wars.“ For example, tens of thousands of civilians were killed by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist militia in reclaiming the city of Mosul, Iraq, and other cities. According to the report, between 182,272 and 204,575 civilians were killed in Iraq, 38,480 in Afghanistan and 23,372 in Pakistan. In Iraq and Afghanistan, nearly 7,000 US soldiers were killed.
