On the second anniversary of the historic first summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Un, the Pyongyang leadership expressed „despair“ about the current state of relations with Washington. Pyongyang no longer believes that maintaining the relationship between Kim and Trump could improve the relationship.
In the relationship between the two countries, there is a „rapidly progressing deterioration,“ complained North Korea’s Foreign Minister Ri Son Gwon in a statement released today by the state news agency KCNA. Government policy in Washington shows that the United States remains a long-term threat to North Korea and its people, Secretary of State Ri said. North Korea will in future better arm itself against US military threats.
The hopes raised by the Singapore summit had turned into „despair,“ said Ri. He accused the US government of being „wildly determined“ to heighten tensions between the two countries. Instead of hopes for „peace and prosperity on the Korean peninsula“, there is now a „dark nightmare“.
