Before the French government discussed a further tightening of coronavirus measures, the country had a record number of almost 10,000 new infections within 24 hours. As the Ministry of Health in Paris announced today, 9,843 new cases of infection have been recorded since the previous day. This is the highest number in France since the pandemic began.

An additional 19 deaths were counted as a result of the infection, bringing the official total death toll in the country to 30,813. France is one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic in Europe. A total of around 390,000 cases of infection have been recorded there so far.

Most recently, the tests were significantly expanded to include the virus. 48,542 infections were found in one million tests within a week.

Macron warns of „panic“

The scientific advisory board is urging the government to act because of the number of infections that have been rising for weeks. However, President Emmanuel Macron warned of “panic” ahead of today’s special government meeting. Exit restrictions, as they had already applied in France between March and May, are the harshest possible means of containing the virus.

In companies and in most schools in the country, a mask is already mandatory. In Paris and other major French cities, mouth and nose protection must also be worn outdoors.

Czech Republic again with record increase in new infections

Meanwhile, the Czech Republic also registered a new daily high with 1,382 new infections within 24 hours, as the Ministry of Health reported. The country has 10.69 million inhabitants. It was the third day in a row with more than 1,000 new infections. In view of the increasing number of infections, the government tightened the mask rules this week.

India (1.353 billion inhabitants) also recorded a further record increase with 96,551 new cases within 24 hours. This increased the total number of detected infections to 4.5 million. The number of deaths increased by 1,209 to 76,271.

In no other country in the world are the numbers of infections rising faster than in India, which has the most cases after the USA. The death toll in India is comparatively low, but more than a thousand deaths have been reported over the last ten days.
