The streets were blocked with burning tires, as the state news agency ANI reported. The police quickly released the blockages, according to the information.

In the Salka district north of the capital Beirut, six people were injured in the police operation against the demonstrators, a spokesman for the Lebanese Red Cross told AFP. According to ANI, there were also roadblocks in the Damur area south of Beirut and the northern city of Tripoli.

There have been repeated demonstrations against mismanagement and corruption in Lebanon over the past weeks and months. The country’s economic situation has recently deteriorated further as a result of the coronavirus crisis.
