Protesters on New York’s US day burned several flags in New York. An action took place near the Trump Tower in central Manhattan. Other cities, including Chicago and Los Angeles, also held rallies on Independence Day yesterday.
Trump attacks protest movement
In a speech on Independence Day in South Dakota, US President Donald Trump previously accused the left wing of the political spectrum of wanting to trigger a “wave of violent crime” in the country’s cities. He wanted to crack down on attacks on „our great freedom,“ Trump said in front of supporters against the backdrop of the Mount Rushmore National Monument. He also accused the protest movement of wiping out US history and demolishing monuments.
The United States National Day on July 4, which dates back to the Declaration of Independence in 1776, is traditionally celebrated with parades, parties and fireworks. This year he is overshadowed by the corona virus pandemic and nationwide protests against racism and police violence after the death of African American George Floyd.
