New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has scheduled a general election for September 19. „I will ask the New Zealanders to continue to support my leadership and the current direction of the government based on stability, a strong economy and progress on New Zealand’s long-term challenges,“ the Socialist said at a press conference today.
Ardern’s center-left coalition came to the government in 2017 and is seeking a second term. Since the legislative period in New Zealand lasts three years, elections should take place in November at the latest.
