In Chile, President Piñera has signed the new Transgender Act.
It provides that people from the age of 14 years can enforce a change of their name and gender with the authorities. The measure will help overcome the painful experience of discrimination, said the head of state in Santiago de Chile. The law should enter into force once the guidelines for its implementation have been drawn up. Chile’s congress had passed it in September after years of political strife.
Transgender refers to people who do not or not only identify with the gender registered at birth.
