Portugal’s tankers have stopped their strike for the time being, which led to fuel shortages during the holiday season. With all their conditions under negotiation, drivers decided to resume their work, said SNMMP spokesman Pedro Pardal Henriques yesterday.
For Tuesday, a meeting is planned, said union president Francisco Sao Bento. He did not rule out that there would be further strikes if the employers‘ organization Antram „an uncompromising attitude“ represents. Unions are demanding higher salaries for tanker truck drivers.
The strike began on 12th August. This led in many places to fuel shortages. The government therefore called for an energy emergency and had the police escort tankers for extra deliveries.
