Poland’s Supreme Court today declared the presidential election valid. „The Supreme Court (…) confirms the validity of the election of Andrzej Sebastian Duda to the position of President of Poland on July 12, 2020,“ said a statement from the Supreme Court, according to the Polish news agency PAP.
The Supreme Court received a total of 5,847 objections to the presidential election. In 93 cases, it was considered that these should be followed up in full or in part, even though they had no influence on the result of the presidential election.
Incumbent Duda, who had been launched by the nationalist-conservative governing party PiS, narrowly won the runoff election on July 12 against candidate Rafal Trzaskowski of the Liberal Citizens‘ Platform (PO) with 51 percent of the vote. The PO had lodged a complaint against the election result. The reason given was the support of the „entire state apparatus“ for Duda.
