The Polish anti-corruption agency CBA has arrested a former Minister of Transport. In an official announcement, the authority today accused the ex-minister of corruption and the conduct of an organized criminal organization. Although it anonymized the name of the accused, it also stated unmistakably that it was the former minister.

The member of the PO citizens‘ platform was Poland’s Minister of Transport from 2011 to 2013 and head of the Ukrainian road administration Ukravtodor from 2016 to 2019. Together with the ex-minister, two other men were arrested, including a former commander of Poland’s GROM military special unit. The arrests were the result of a joint investigation by the Polish and Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities, the CBA said.

Representatives of the opposition PO accused the national conservative government party Law and Justice PiS of politically exploiting the anti-corruption agency. PiS politicians had previously made allegations of corruption against officials nominated by the PO, but have so far been unable to provide sufficient evidence, the PAP news agency quoted opposition MP Pawel Zalewski.
