The U.S. Department of Defense says it has no evidence that North Korea’s ruler Kim Jong Un has any control over his country’s nuclear weapons because of health problems. Senior US General John Hyten said yesterday that he could neither confirm nor deny speculation about Kim’s alleged operation.
„I expect Kim Jong Un to remain in full control of the Korean nuclear arsenal and armed forces,“ said the Pentagon representative. „I have no reason not to assume that.“
Recently there had been speculation that Kim had had an operation and was still in “danger”. The speculation was triggered by the fact that the ruler had not made a public appearance at the celebrations for his grandfather Kim Il Sung’s birthday on April 15.
The founder’s birthday is the most important day in the country’s political calendar. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the celebrations had taken place on a much smaller scale than usual.
