In protest against Israel’s annexation plans in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian militant factions in the Gaza Strip have called for a „Day of Anger“ for Wednesday. The various groups in the Palestinian Territory on the Mediterranean agreed today on a joint action plan against US President Donald Trump’s Middle East plan and the annexation project.

According to a leaflet, a large rally is planned in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, which is dominated by the Islamist Hamas organization. However, it was unclear whether there will be protests on the border with Israel.

Often triggers for collisions

In the past, unrest with dead and injured people was common after similar calls. The armed arm of Hamas had described an annexation of Israel as a declaration of war.

The Israeli government plans to annex up to 30 percent of the occupied West Bank based on Trump’s Middle East plan. First steps could be initiated from Wednesday. The EU and Germany classify an annexation as a violation of international law. The Palestinians claim the West Bank, which was conquered by Israel in 1967 in the Six Day War, for their future state with East Jerusalem as the capital.
