In Italy, the number of new coronavirus infections has risen dramatically again compared to the previous day. As the ANSA news agency reports with reference to the responsible Ministry of Health, there was a new record of 8,804 new infections. There were also 83 additional fatalities, almost twice as many as the previous day, when 43 deaths related to Covid-19 were reported.
A record 163,000 smears were taken in one day. The number of coronavirus deaths in Italy since the epidemic began in February rose to 36,372. The number of confirmed active cases climbed to 99,266, the number of Covid 19 patients treated in hospitals rose from 5,470 to 5,796, said the Italian Ministry of Health. There are currently 92,884 people in quarantine. There were 585 patients in intensive care units, compared with 539 the day before.
In view of the increasing number of infections in Italy, the establishment of restricted zones in particularly badly affected provinces cannot be ruled out. In this context, media reports named several localities in the north Italian Aosta Valley.
