A recent report shows that 42.2 percent of Chinese employees worked overtime in 2017. The average work schedule exceeds eight hours. Researchers at the University of Inner Mongolia investigated the use of time among 30,591 people in 12,471 families in the 29 Chinese provinces and metropolitan areas.

Low-income workers, low-educated people, and manufacturing and manufacturing workers had to work the most overtime, and as much as 58.8 percent in the manufacturing industry.

Du Fenglian, the project’s lead researcher and Dean at the School of Economics and Management at the University of Inner Mongolia, said she was surprised to find such a high percentage of overtime. She added that the study found that Chinese women spend more time at home and less work – a trend that is also seen in South Korea and Japan.

An earlier study by the travel website Mafengwo said 88 percent of the employees would also have to work during the holidays.
