The Civil Aviation Authority of Mongolia (MCAA) reports that record-breaking 1.2 million passengers were carried on international flights to and from Mongolia this past year.
Chairman of MCAA L.Byambasuren said, “As of October, the total number of international flights increased by 6.5 percent, while flights to Asia and the Pacific region increased by 8.5 percent. The nation-wide air traffic also increased by 9 percent, which is above the statistics of the region.”
He also highlighted that domestic flights increased by 21 percent, of which destination for over 70 percent of its passengers is the mines, and noted that the 1.2 million passengers on international flights is the highest record for Mongolia. He then continued on saying, “We have full potential to make flight to many more destinations and cooperate with airlines of other countries. However, other airlines will have interest to land and take off from the airport when aviation fuels are sold at the international price in our country.”
According to the officials, as 36 percent of the passengers for international flights are flying to and from South Korea, the MCAA is planning to propose an agreement on air communication to corresponding South Korean ministries and companies this January, which will create a more favorable condition for passengers.
