In Oslo, the charging of electric cars in municipal parking lots will soon no longer be free. As the city administration announced, as of Monday, the 1,300 charging stations in the city are gradually being retrofitted. One hour of charging costs around one euro during the day and half during the night.

„Need to ensure rotation“

„It’s almost impossible to find a free charging station in the streets of Oslo by now,“ said Christina Bu, general secretary of the Norwegian electric car club, the newspaper Aftenposten. „We have to ensure rotation and that people only park at charging stations, even if they charge.“ At the turn of the year, around 36,000 electric cars were registered in Oslo, equivalent to twelve percent of all vehicles.

Norway is experiencing a veritable boom in e-cars thanks to substantial tax breaks. According to estimates of the association, half of the newly registered cars will be electric powered this year.
