According to the Russian ambassador, Pyongyang’s recently intensified confrontation course against Seoul can be traced back to “dirty, insulting” depictions of ruler Kim Jong Us Ms. Ri Sol Ju on leaflets from South Korea.
Leaflet actions on May 31 included „a particularly disgusting form of propaganda“ targeting North Korea’s first lady, said Russian ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora, the Russian news agency TASS.
The leaflets depicting Ri had triggered „serious outrage“ in Pyongyang, Matsegora said yesterday. The depictions have „made the barrel overflow“.
North Korea blew up the liaison office
In mid-June, North Korea blew up the South Korea liaison office in the border town of Kaesong and intensified its verbal attacks against the brother state. Last week, however, Kim sent signals of de-escalation to Seoul again and announced that it would suspend its “plans for military action”.
Tensions between the two Korean states had increased significantly since the failure of a summit between Kim and US President Donald Trump in February last year. Since then, negotiations between the United States and North Korea to dismantle the North Korean nuclear program have been put on hold.
