Newspaper: May wants to postpone new Brexit vote

According to a newspaper report, British Prime Minister Theresa May is preparing for a postponement of next week’s parliamentary vote on her Brexit bid at the end of February. That was signaled in the Cabinet, announced yesterday the „Telegraph“. Actually May wanted to media reports according to which the lower house on 13 February again over their Brexit contract to vote.

However, according to Telegraph, the head of government is unlikely to have negotiated changes in time. The deputies had instructed her after the Treaty had clearly failed in the first lower house vote in January.

Today, May is in Brussels to find a solution with the EU. The head of government meets EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, EU Council President Donald Tusk and representatives of the EU Parliament. The negotiations are mainly about the „backstop“, which is supposed to guarantee an open border between the EU country Ireland and the British Northern Ireland.
