UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the international community in its New Year message on Sunday to continue its efforts in the New Year to address global threats and challenges together.
Climate change, conflict, record migration, inequality, intolerance and diminishing confidence were among the big issues and challenges, Guterres said. Among other things, the peace talks for the civil war country of Yemen and the progress made between the previously hostile countries of Ethiopia and Eritrea, new signs of possible peace in South Sudan, the adoption of the Migration and Refugee Pact and the climate summit in Poland offer hope.
„At the beginning of the new year, we should commit ourselves to countering threats together, defending human dignity and building a better future together,“ said the UN Secretary-General.
