In the north of Honduras, a new group of migrants has left for the United States. Around 500 to 600 people today left the city of San Pedro Sula, as local media reported. Some had set off on foot, others had taken a bus to get to the border with neighboring Guatemala faster. In the weeks, people in social networks had called for the formation of a new migrant caravan.
In October of last year, several migrant groups from Central America with a total of more than 6,000 people reached Mexico by the border with the United States. People fled violence and poverty in their homeland and hoped for asylum in the US. However, US President Donald Trump made a massive mood against them in the November election campaign and spoke of an impending „invasion“ of refugees.
The new Mexican government led by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador also announced that immigrants and migrants without proper papers and registration would be denied entry to Mexico. In October, at the southern border of Mexico, some chaotic scenes occurred as thousands crossed a border river between Guatemala and Mexico.
