The prosecutor in the Czech Republic is considering new allegations against Prime Minister Andrej Babis. Previously, Czech media had published an internal audit report by the European Commission on EU subsidies to government-affiliated companies. „What is written there is serious and could justify the suspicion of an offense,“ said Pavel Zeman, the highest prosecutor in the country, yesterday the Czech television CT.

The multi-billionaire Babis of the populist ANO is the founder of a corporate empire in the agricultural, food and media industries. The preliminary report shows that the European Commission could reclaim up to € 17.4 million in subsidies paid to Agrofert Holding companies. Babis is accused of having been a head of government and entrepreneur in a conflict of interest.

Babis went to counterattack. The Attorney General ignored the rules of a fair and just process with his „overzealous initiative“. He spoke of a „highly abnormal audit“ whose results are not yet final. Thousands of people have regularly been taking to the streets of the Czech Republic for weeks and for independent investigations.
