The number of new global infections with the coronavirus has risen to a record high according to the World Health Organization (WHO). At 212,326, the number was higher than ever in a day, the organization said. Almost 130,000 of these are in the WHO Americas region, which includes 35 countries in North, Central and South America, including the United States.

There have been almost 20,000 new cases in Europe recently. Overall, the number of infected people according to the WHO census is around 10.9 million worldwide. The number of deaths rose by 5,134 to 523,011. Here, too, the Americas region leads the field with around 259,000, in Europe there were almost 200,000.

Nearly 53,000 new infections in the United States

In the United States, the number of new infections remained over 50,000. As reported by the US Center for Disease Control, there were 52,492 new cases yesterday, which is only slightly less than on Friday (53,301) and Thursday (54,357). In total, 2,785 million coronavirus infections have been confirmed in the USA. The number of deaths from Covid-19 rose by 749 to 129,297.
