New giant US arms company planned by merger

In the US defense and aviation industry, a major merger is in the offing: the two companies Raytheon and United Technologies announced yesterday plans for a merger.

The merger by share exchange should be completed in the first half of 2020. The merger will „define the future of aviation and defense,“ said United Technologies boss Gregory Hayes.

The arms company Raytheon is best known for its Patriot missile system and the Tomahawk cruise missiles. With its Pratt and Whitney engines used in military and civil aircraft, United Technologies is one of the aviation majors.

Together, both companies for an annual turnover of about 74 billion dollars (about 65 billion euros). The new group, called Raytheon Technologies Corporation, would now have a market capitalization of $ 168 billion.
