For the second day in a row, protesters and security forces clashed outside the US embassy in Iraq. Several people were injured by the use of tear gas, the state-run Iraqi news agency INA reported today. Eyewitnesses told the dpa that hundreds of demonstrators had spent the night near the embassy site.
Demonstrators yesterday tried to storm the highly secure embassy complex. Protesters set fire to several guard houses. The United States has announced plans to send additional troops to Iraq to protect the embassy.
