Israel’s right-wing conservative Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticized the corruption charges against him as politically motivated. These are an „attempted coup“ against him, he said last night. The investigation against him had the goal of overthrowing a right-wing government. He did not respond to demands for opposition from opposition politicians.

Netanyahu is due to go to court for corruption. The Ministry of Justice had previously said that Netanyahu should be charged with fraud, infidelity and corruption. It is the first time in Israel’s history that an incumbent Prime Minister stands directly before an indictment.

Netanyahu said he wanted to continue serving as prime minister. He accused the competent authorities of dirty work in the investigation.
