Heather Nauert, the candidate for US Ambassador to the United States, has surprisingly withdrawn her application. The stated lurks last night (local time) in a written statement from the US State Department. She mentioned family reasons for this decision.
Nauert stressed that she was grateful for the trust that US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had placed in her. The past two months have been very stressful for her family. Therefore, she withdrew her candidacy in the interest of her family. She did not become more specific.
Nauert, formerly a presenter at Fox News, the Trump-affiliated television broadcaster, has been spokeswoman for Pompeo in the State Department over the past few years. About two months ago, at the beginning of December, Trump had announced that she would become the new UN Ambassador following the withdrawal of Nikki Haley. The personality would have to be confirmed by the US Senate. Haley had announced in October that she would give up her post at the United Nations for personal reasons at the end of the year.
