As the second country in the world after the US, Brazil has exceeded the limit of 300,000 registered coronavirus deaths. The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced yesterday that 300,685 people have died in connection with Covid-19 since the pandemic began around a year ago. Around 211 million people live in Brazil.

Only in the United States (330 million inhabitants) have more people fallen victim to the virus, with around 545,000 deaths. Brazil passed the 3,000 death mark in 24 hours for the first time on Tuesday.

In the largest country in Latin America, more than 12.2 million people have been shown to be infected with the corona virus. In most states, intensive care units are at the limit. The far-right President Jair Bolsonaro played down the coronavirus from the start, rejecting a nationwide lockdown for economic reasons. After a televised address by the head of state on Tuesday, there were expressions of discontent against the government’s coronavirus policy in numerous cities in the country.
