The number of coronavirus infections registered worldwide has exceeded the 25 million mark. That comes from data from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore from last night (local time). The world population is almost 7.8 billion people.

The USA recorded the highest number of infections with just under six million, followed by Brazil with around 3.9 million cases. In third place is India (1.3 billion inhabitants), where 3.5 million infections have been registered so far.

Third most deaths in Mexico

When it comes to the number of deaths associated with Covid 19, the USA ranks first with a good 183,000 – in a country with around 330 million inhabitants. In second place comes Brazil (almost 220 million inhabitants) with more than 120,000 deaths.

Mexico (126 million inhabitants) has the third highest number with almost 64,000 deaths. According to the information, around 845,000 people worldwide have died from being infected to or with the virus since the beginning of the pandemic.

Experts expect a higher number of unreported cases

The Johns Hopkins website is regularly updated with incoming data and therefore shows a higher level than the official figures of the World Health Organization (WHO). In some cases, however, the numbers have recently been revised downwards again. In any case, experts assume a higher number of unreported cases.
