The Zumtobel Group will install around 11,000 Thorn LED luminaires in previously unlighted streets and squares in Ulaanbaatar.
The Mongolian government has now commissioned the Austrian lighting company Zumtobel with the infrastructure measure, which according to the company has a value in the low double-digit million euro range. In the north of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, around 11,000 Thorn LED luminaires will be installed on previously unlighted streets and squares.
The Mongolian government has great expectations in implementing the lighting project of the Zumtobel Group, „to enable a previously disadvantaged population group to make substantial improvements in their everyday lives,“ it says. About 200,000 people live in the provinces of Darkhan-Uul and Selenge in northern Mongolia.
This project is about a complete turnkey solution that includes high-quality lighting equipment, project management, planning, delivery, installation, commissioning, training and regular maintenance. To date, no market development activities have taken place in Mongolia by the Zumtobel Group.
The project is financially secured by Oesterreichische Kontrollbank AG (OeKB) as part of a concessional financing (soft loan). Soft loan financing is used to support the Austrian export industry. These development aid credits, which are awarded through the participation of the public sector on favorable terms, should also serve the sustainable development of the target country.
