
More than 3,000 secret graves have been discovered in Mexico since 2006. Almost 5,000 bodies were buried in it, the National Commission for Searching for Missiles yesterday announced. Mexico has been experiencing a wave of violence linked to drug trafficking for years.
In 2006, the government launched a military offensive against the drug cartels. More than 250,000 people have since been murdered in the Latin American country. According to Mexican authorities, 40,000 people are currently missing.
Just since the inauguration of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in December, 522 secret graves containing 671 bodies were discovered, according to the Commission’s report. Only 200 of them could be identified.
