After the European elections, the party of the French president wants to form together with the former liberal block a new faction in parliament. The FDP also becomes part of the Alliance.

The Liberals in the European Parliament want to form a new faction in the European Parliament together with the list Renaissance by the French ruling party La République en Marche (LREM). This was communicated by the FDP, which as a German party will become a member of the new alliance. The former Liberal Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (Alde) in the EU Parliament had met on Saturday with representatives of the Renaissance list, said the FDP.

Liberals want to break the power of the conservatives

Alde and the Renaissance list are „determined to form a new group in the European Parliament after the European elections“, which will be open to the accession of other like-minded parties. The new group will be „a new force“ in the European Parliament and „end the current grand coalition of social and Christian Democrats,“ said the FDP. „We are ready to form a coalition with other reform-minded factions in the European Parliament who share our goals,“ it said.

The LREM of French President Emmanuel Macron wants to break the power of the Conservatives in the European Parliament. The parties that signed the agreement included the FDP and the Renaissance, Ciudadanos‘ Spanish center-right alliance, D66 from the Netherlands, Momentum from Hungary, MR from Belgium, the Austrian Neos and VVD from the Netherlands.
