The Paris Louvre remains closed for the time being because of the fear of the coronavirus: The employees of the most visited museum in the world stopped work for the second day in a row, according to the CGT union.
The Louvre management used tickets to call tourists to request a refund by email. In front of the museum, dozens of people waited in vain for admission. In France, employees have a right of withdrawal from their work if there is a “serious and immediate danger to their life or health”. The Louvre employees exercised this right as they did yesterday.
The French Ministry of Health, on the other hand, said that the government did not believe that the Louvre or an amusement park like Disneyland should be closed. People are not crowded there, so the risk of transmission is not great.
Museums and churches reopen in northern Italy
Northern Italy continues to limit the coronavirus epidemic, but some measures are eased. Churches and museums are to be reopened this week, however, a high number of visitors should be avoided. Services are still suspended.
These measures do not apply to the eleven municipalities in the “red zone” in the provinces of Lodi and Padua. Gyms and sports facilities remain closed in the three regions most affected by the epidemic, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Venice. Cultural and sporting events will still not be possible. Restaurants, cafes and bars can open, but they must guarantee table service.
