Liechtenstein’s former Foreign Minister Aurelia Frick has to answer before the criminal court in Vaduz today. According to the public prosecutor’s office, she is charged with abuse of office.
The 45-year-old former government councilor and her general secretary are said to have paid bills mainly for advisory services between September 2018 and the beginning of July 2019, without first obtaining the necessary government decisions.
The process forms the legal conclusion of the „consultant affair“, which was politically resolved on July 2, 2019. At that time, the Liechtenstein parliament, the 25-member state parliament, withdrew their confidence in the foreign, justice and culture minister at a full-day special session. 23 MPs voted.
The government councilor received only two votes that they supported. In the end, she was also dropped by her party, the Progressive Citizens‘ Party of Prime Minister Adrian Hasler.
Hereditary Prince Alois had agreed to the removal of Frick the evening after the special session of parliament. The heir to the throne announced in a statement that he no longer sees the basis of trust necessary for successful government work as a given.
