A letter from the physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955) to his sister Maja has been auctioned in Jerusalem. At the auction yesterday brought the letter converted just under 28,400 euros, as the auction house Kedem announced. Whoever bought the letter was not known.

Einstein referred to the letter as early as 1922 on the difficulties for Jews in Germany. Einstein was born in Ulm, but had to flee as a Jew from the Nazis to the United States.

„Economically and politically gloomy times are here,“ wrote Einstein in the approximately one and a half pages long letter in German. „Do not worry about me, I’m not scared myself, even though it’s not quite kosher, people are just over the moon.
