Talks between the US and China over the end of their trade wars have gone into Beijing for the second and final day today. Five weeks after the truce between US President Donald Trump and China’s Party of State and Party leader Xi Jinping, the negotiators are struggling to make progress in the trade dispute, which is increasingly causing uncertainty in global financial markets.
Nothing was known about the progress of the negotiations, but a breakthrough was not expected. Rather, the talks should pave the way for higher-level negotiations. Above all, the US complains of lack of market access, technology transfer under duress, piracy and government subsidies in China. Both presidents had agreed on a 90-day „ceasefire“ on December 1 after the completion of the summit of the G-20 in Buenos Aires.
