The ÖVP has today officially nominated its party chairman Sebastian Kurz as the top candidate for the National Council elections this autumn. This was announced by the party after the meeting of the party executive committee. Sharp criticism then exercised Secretary General Karl Nehammer to SPÖ and FPÖ. He spoke of an „alliance between red and blue,“ which „voted down“ ex-Chancellor Kurz in parliament.

For the National Council election in the fall, one is very confident, but not euphoric, said the Styrian Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer. One should not praise the day before the evening.

Kurz defends action

Like his colleague, Lower Austrian provincial governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, he referred to the good performance of the ÖVP in the EU election on Sunday. Mikl-Leitner saw this as a „strengthening of the political center“ and confirmation of Kurz’s course.

After his removal Kurz defended yesterday again his actions after the break of the coalition. He had „acted as the Constitution requires,“ Kurz said in one of several interviews. At the „Ibiza video“ he brought again the former SPÖ adviser Tal Silberstein into play.
