European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has expressed pessimism about the prospects for an orderly withdrawal from the UK. His efforts to find a solution are designed to avoid the worst, Juncker said today in Brussels. „But I’m not optimistic,“ he added to the Economic and Social Committee.
He justified his assessment the day after a meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May that there was only one majority against every vote in the British Parliament, but not for anything. Should there be an unregulated Brexit, that would have devastating economic and social consequences for Britain and the EU.
May spoke of progress after yesterday’s meeting with Juncker. They had progressed in the talks on the Irish border. The UK is scheduled to leave the EU on 29 March.
