
More than 200,000 people worldwide have died as a result of a coronavirus infection. This was announced by the US University of Johns Hopkins yesterday on its coronavirus info page. The number of deaths was 200,698 and the number of confirmed infections was 2,865,938.
More than a quarter of all fatalities occurred in the United States (52,782), followed by the European hotspots Italy (26,384), Spain (22,902), France (22,279) and the United Kingdom (20,380). This means that almost three quarters of all deaths were counted in only five countries. The USA (924,576) was also clearly ahead in terms of the number of confirmed cases, followed by Spain (223,759), Italy (195,351), France (159,952), Germany (155,418) and Great Britain (149,554). The outbreak country China was in ninth place with 83,901 cases and 4,636 deaths.
