In northeastern Nigeria, jihadists have killed at least 30 people and kidnapped numerous women and children. The attackers attacked dozens of vehicles near Maiduguri, the capital of the state of Borno, on Sunday evening, a spokesman for the regional government said today. Accordingly, 18 vehicles were set on fire and three buses were hijacked.
At first, nobody claimed responsibility for the attack. The militia Islamic State Province of West Africa (Iswap) is active in the area and has split off from Boko Haram.
AFP journalists counted dozens of burned-down trucks, buses, and cars along the road. A member of a militia fighting the jihadists with the army spoke of around 30 burned trucks. „Many truck drivers and their assistants are dead,“ he said. How many people were on the hijacked buses is unclear.
