According to information from Tokyo, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will be the first foreign state guest to be received by US President Joe Biden in the White House.

Suga’s visit to Washington is planned for the first half of April, said a Japanese government spokesman. So far, since taking office in January, Biden has only met foreign heads of state and government virtually.

Japan is an important security partner for the USA in the Asia-Pacific region. At the same time, the United States, with its nuclear arsenal, is Japan’s protective power. The planned meeting between Biden and Suga takes place against the background of China’s increasing drive for power in the Indo-Pacific region.
