Italy plans to reopen its airports on June 3. That announced the Italian Minister of Transport Paola De Micheli in front of the parliament in Rome today. From June 3, foreigners can travel to Italy again without having to undergo a two-week quarantine. Italy hopes to restart tourism.
Since the end of the „lock-down“ on Monday, the number of rail connections in Italy has more than doubled compared to the previous week, De Micheli reported. The Minister took a positive stock of „Phase 2“ for Italy’s public transport system.
„We have only identified a few critical situations in Lombardy and Rome, but we are in the process of solving the problems,“ said De Micheli. The pressure on the public transport system has increased, as two thirds of workers are now working in the private sector again.
On Monday there was further relaxation of the measures with the restart of retail, catering and tourism. Restaurants, bars and hairdressing salons were able to open again – two weeks earlier than originally planned. Italians are allowed to visit friends and services again. Meetings of larger groups are initially prohibited.
